Following the establishment of Aluminium
Bahrain (ALBA) in 1971 as the first smelter in the Middle East,
Al Zayani Investments was the first private group to identify
the enormous benefits of downstreaming next to a source of hot
metal. In 1978, Midal Cables Ltd. was commissioned with an initial
capacity of 20,000 MT to produce EC grade aluminium rod, aluminium
alloy rod for mechanical and electrical application, all aluminium
conductor steel reinforced and aluminium alloy conductor for
power transmission lines.
As Alba's capacity grew to 500,000 MT,
so did Midal's to the current operational ceiling of 90,000 MT
per year. Soon Midal
will become the single largest molten metal user customer to
Alba actively contributing to the national economy of Bahrain
by placing a much higher added value to Bahrain's exported aluminium.
Reinforcing
its status as a leader in its field in 1993, Midal was the first
industrial company in Bahrain to be awarded the
international quality System Standard ISO 9002 and in 1996 Midal
was also awarded ISO 14001 Environmental & Quality Standard,
measures that will ensure its continued word wide recognition
as a quality industrial company.
