BMW Performance Centre Bahrain starts Race Series

Motorsport fans in the Middle East region have taken up a new passion, to drive a Formula BMW car on a world renowned circuit with an aim to compete in a recently launched series. The month of June had scores of nationalities flocking the Bahrain International Circuit to take part in a course run by the BMW Performance Centre Bahrain. The three day course attracted a string of possible future motorsport champions. The training courses kick-off the Formula BMW, Racing Centre 'Race Series’ the first of its kind in the region.

“We are thrilled to offer this series of courses and actively promote motorsport in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the GCC. The courses will provide a fantastic opportunity for us to coach future racing drivers in a culture where car racing is relatively new. We are equally excited to begin the Formula BMW Racing Centre Race Series on the 22nd and 23rd of September 2005, for the first time ever in Bahrain,” said Paul Spooner, Chief Instructor of the Centre.

The Formula BMW Race Professional Courses, each set up over a period of three days, will help race fans to indulge their passion for motorsport and ensure that their progress is both safe and informed Cars will be prepared in advance, and FIA standard race suits and helmets will be provided for all drivers. Drivers will train in single BMW FB2 racing cars, packing 140 bhp and a top speed of up to 230 km/h and will gain an understanding of how to drive the race car to its maximum potential. The courses will teach theory and practical of set-ups, gear changes, racing lines, braking, flags, regulations and how to behave while the safety car is on the track.

The BMW Performance Centre Bahrain will be offering the next sessions from September 7th to 9th, 2005. All drivers participating in the courses will be eligible to race in the Formula BMW Racing Centre Race Series.

The upcoming courses will prepare the drivers for the Formula BMW Racing Centre Race that will officially begin in September 2005. The series will comprise of the drivers involved in the Formula BMW Race Professional Courses soon in a total of 16 races over eight structured events.

For drivers who are over 15 years of age and are graduates of a Formula BMW Racing Centre Three- Day Race Professional Course the “Arrive & Drive “ programme will allow them to join the Race Series for one-off races or the entire series.

The primary purpose of the series is to provide drivers with equal opportunities and chances of winning at an affordable cost, while complying with all the relevant safety requirements. All FB2 racing cars being the same, it is the driver who makes the difference in being able to demonstrate their skill.

“With the aim of producing the Arab world’s first Formula One driver, the Formula BMW Racing Centre welcome youths as young as 15 years of age to register for the specialty training and take their first steps on the road to stardom,” said Spooner.

The BMW Performance Center Bahrain is expected to become an international attraction and a good contributor to Bahrain's economy as drivers from anywhere around the world are welcome to register for the racing courses.

“Bahrain is central to European and Asian markets and is easy to reach. With many countries having cold and wet weather during the winter, we expect driving enthusiasts to come to Bahrain for their training as local weather is good almost all year round,” Spooner added.

“The BIC has proven to be the best circuit in the world and many eager drivers would be proud to claim that they have driven on the Bahrain Grand Prix circuit. “He concluded.

Euro Motors supports United Nations (UN) World Summit Awards (WSA) with a fleet of Land Rover LR3s

Euro Motors donated a fleet of 15 Land Rover LR3 vehicles in support for the assigned judges in the United Nations (UN) World Summit Awards (WSA) for e- products that will be hosted by Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce in association with Bahrain Internet Society, during September 2005.



Mr. Paul Yates, the General Manager of Euro Motors, signed this agreement with Dr. Abdulla Mansoor, Under Secretary of Ministry of Industry and Commerce, at the Euro Motors showroom premises in Sitra.

According to this agreement, Euro Motors will supply the Ministry with a fleet of 15 LR3 vehicles to be used for transporting the assigned jurors for the event.

Dr. Abdulla Mansour the Under Secretary for Trade Affairs in the Ministry stated, “On behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, I would like to thank Euro Motors for their great support by providing the ideal transportation vehicles for the international jurors from 36 countries and for facilitating this unique international event that is hosted, for the first time in the kingdom.”

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce played a vital role in convincing the respected International sources to choose the Kingdom of Bahrain as a venue to host the World Summit Award (WSA) 2005 Grand Jury. This event is one of the largest and most prominent international events that will take place for the fist time in the Kingdom, during the period 3rd – 10th September, 2005.

40 IT Specialists, from 36 countries around the world, will participate in this event to select the best 40 entries from 168 countries. The winners will be announced at the UN World Summit Award WSI Information Society which will be held in Tunisia in November 2005, in the presence of several world leaders.

This is the second time for such and international event to be held. The first Summit for e-contest products was held in Geneve in 2003. The e-contest is organized by WSA International which is headquartered in Austria and headed by Professor Brooke, a pioneering internationally acclaimed famous master-mind in the field of innovative technology and an Oscar Award winner in the e-products field.

Present at the Agreement Signing Ceremony were the Ministry of Industry and Commerce officials- Mr. Ali Radhi, Assistant Under Secretary for the Ministry, Mr. Abdul Allah Al Hamid – Head of e-trade, Mr. Majeed Al Shareef- e-trade specialist and Mr. Tarek Al Habbal – Euro Motors Marketing Manager as well as Mr. Mohammed Al Hujairi, President of Bahrain Internet Society.

2005 Mini challenge season kicks of at Bahrain International Circuit

Euro Motors, the exclusive importer for BMW Group cars and motorcycles in Bahrain, has kicked-off the 2005 MINI Challenge season at the Bahrain International Circuit. The inaugural race in this year’s MINI Challenge series, featured 9 MINI Cooper Club Sport cars going head to head for the first time ever in a Drag Race format.

The top finishers in the first race included Ali Al-Kobaisi driving the #2 Castro car with a best time of 17.165 seconds; Talal Ghaith driving the #1 Unstopabulls car with a best time of 18.227 seconds; and Bill Daly driving the #8 Alwardi Group car with a best time of 18.241 seconds. The second round of races for the 2005 season was held on June 10th at the BIC.

The races, that were held in conjunction with the Bahrain Motor Federation, featured 9 MINI Cooper Club Sport cars, with identical specifications and engine capacity. The teams were (in given numbers order)
1. Unstoppabulls, 2. Intercol, 3. Al Ayam Al Riadi, 4. Total Flooring Solutions, 6. Castrol, 11. National Car Rental, 12. KSA Racing, 13. Al Wardi Group, 16. Al Gosaibi.

The MINI Challenge will break for the summer and start up again on September 9th. Races in November and December will serve as support events for the GT and Formula BMW Races, respectfully.

All the drivers participating in the MINI Challenge have taken part in three training sessions, under the watchful eyes of professional instructors from the BMW Performance Center in Bahrain, which is operated by Spooner Motorsports Development.
